Taos wandered the streets of his beloved Mist Falls. He and the Nomads had done a wonderful job constructing the buildings around him. Though population was low at this time, he knew it would build up. He began walking towards his quarters when he heard a rustling coming from a dark alleyway. "Hello!" Taos shouted, an eerie cold coming over him. He knew the auras of his denizens but this was odd....almost too dark. Snapping his fingers and calling forth a ball of light, he flicked it down the alley. For a moment he saw nothing. But a second later Taos seen a shadow turning the corner at the other end of the building. Reaching out with his mind he tried to sense the shadow, no result. Never had his power left him without results. Taos was old. Going on 100 years. Whatever he had just seen wasn't suppose to be.

Malachi Night had just entered this village. He needed a new start. There was a price on his head, but who could blame the townsfolk of Risten. He had just killed their snake of a lord, and that is an insult to snakes. This town seemed ok and cut off from the world. Maybe word hadn't come here yet, maybe it never will. "Hello!" The shout came from no where. Why were people out at this hour?!? Can't a wanted man run in peace. "Shit," Malachi muttered as a ball of light came toward him. Focusing on himself and the darkness of the alley he pulled the shadows around him and ran. Who was that man? Malachi continued to run, all the while he felt the presence of a conscience. Pulling the shadows closer around him, he became almost non-existent. Finding shelter in what looked like a bakery he decided to rest.

Taos took off down the alley. As he turned the same corner he had seen the shadow he braced himself for a possible attack, but there was nothing. Just night. Just darkness. Again he got the thought "Too Dark." A chill ran down his spine as he continued on. Not running but briskly walking. He knew everyone that entered the town. As he walked down the main street he reached his mind out. He felt everything. The people asleep, the night animals foraging for their meals. The Hawk that set on the roof top of the bakery. Then he felt it, he felt nothing. The same nothing he had felt minutes before. It felt cold and empty. "There," he thought to himself. That is where the culprit is. He eased himself closer to the bakery. Careful not to make a sound. He peered in the window and saw shadows, but these shadows were different, almost alive. It was time to act. Pulling up a mental image he began to shift. He could feel his bones getting smaller. The cracking and popping as the joints of his human skeleton transformed into the skeleton of a mouse. The shift wasn't pleasant but didn't hurt like it did several decades ago. Now that the shift was complete he entered into the bakery. Night vision of the mouse let him see so much more. He crept closer to the swirls of moving darkness. He positioned himself so that the being could not escape, and he returned to his form. "Awaken and present yourself!" demanded Taos.

Malachi sat quietly in the corner of the bakery. "I will rest here for a bit," thought the mage to himself. Taking a deep breath and relaxing we watched as a mouse made its way across the floor. The tiny creature stopped for a minute and stared in his direction. Before Malachi could shoo it away, it burst into a man. "Awake and present yourself!" yelled the figure. Malachi froze for a moment. Slowly he began to stand. The man standing before him was overwhelming. Malachi couldn't help but to do what he said. After all he didn't really want trouble. With another breath, he lessened the shadows around him so he could become visible. "My name is Malachi Night, I have come to seek refuge in this town." The man looked into Malachi's eyes. Malachi could feel the fight or flight urges kicking in, and Malachi never chose flight.

"Don't do it son!" Taos exclaimed as he seen Malachi tense up and clench is fist. Taos didn't want a fight. He was very passive by nature, but when threatened he could hold his own. "Let's calm down and talk about this. I just want to know your business here, all is welcome in this town. But cause trouble and that is the end." Taos raised his hands in a "I'm unarmed" fashion. He knew that he took the guy by surprise with shifting. "Again, I ask you, what brings you to Mist Falls?"

Malachi didn't take kindly to demands. Hence the reason he was on the run. "You need to step back!" shouted Malachi, already feeling the darkness rise up around him. This guy wasn't backing down. I have already stated my business once, thought the mage. He made it his mission in life to not repeat himself. With a sharp breath he blasted the guy in front of him with a wall of shadows.

Taos flew backwards and the blow struck him in the chest. "You will not attack me in my own town," huffed the Mayor when he regained his breath. Taos got to his feet and started toward the miscreant. With eyes glowing and fiery orange color, Taos summoned his power from deep within. Feeling it boil to the top he unleashed a wave of psychic energy. "You will not get up!" demanded Taos, psychically restraining Malachi.

Malachi couldn't move. Though he could see no ropes binding him, he could feel them. What was this man? Malachi had never came across someone so powerful, so dominate. Realizing that he was defeated, he allowed the Mayor's power take him over. He passed out.
